The third round of Pool Matches for the Prudden
Road Sufacing Junior Tennis Cup Competition saw the competition hot up
because, despite the leaders of the Pools remaining unchanged, there
were some surprise results with the teams leading three of the pools not
coming out on top this round. However, the five teams currently on top
are Henley and Tanworth jointly in Pool A, Studley in Pool B, Shipston
for Pool C and finally Evesham in Pool D.
Pool A was the most even with three of the four teams winning two
matches each. Joint leaders Henley, thanks to their pair Adam Williams
& Jake Evans, opened with a surprise 6-0 victory over joint leaders
Tanworth-in-Arden. Henley then went on to defeat bottom placed
Claverdon 6-2, but were shocked by third placed Snitterfield to whom
they lost 2-6. The Tanworth pair Rory Turnbull & Will Elliott recovered
their composure after their terrible start to defeat both Claverdon 6-2
and then Snitterfield after an extremely close game 7-5. Snitterfield
pair Jonathon Smith & Oliver Albrecht were the surprise of the night as
despite their close loss to Tanworth they went on to beat as previously
reported the other top side Henley 6-2 and also the unfortunate
Claverdon pair of Jasper Chamberlain & Rory Harris 6-0.
In Pool B it was not leaders Alcester who dominated but Inkberrow.
Their pair George Crotty & Billy Coughlin opened with a 6-2 victory over
Alcester, before also beating top team Studley 6-4 and then HDA 6-2.
Studley retained their position at the top of the table with Tom Allum &
Jake Woolley charging back to beat HDA and Alcester both by a 6-2
score. James Watson & Adam Derby for Redditch side HAD gained some
consolation when they won 6-2 at the expense of Alcester’s Tom Kirby &
Adam Woolacott.
Shipston were the only side who continued to dominate in their Pool C.
James Hudson & Hugh Allen once again defeated all comers when they beat
Stratford A 6-1, Chipping Campden 6-2 and finally Ilmington 6-1. Third
placed Ilmington were the surprise package of the night as their pair of
Nicholas Sharratt & Ned Plackett defeated Campden 6-3 and then second
placed Stratford A 6-2. In the final match Stratford’s Adam Cyrkunowicz
& Sam Massey beat Campden’s Jeremy Thompson & Josh Mosley 6-3.
The Pool D night also threw up a surprise as third placed Stratford B
won all three of their matches. Their pair Isaac Mackenzie & Angus
Garin-McHarry began with a 6-4 win over Pershore, followed by a 6-2
victory over previously second placed Bidford and finally a terrific 6-2
defeat of leaders Evesham. With those results they move up to second
spot. Evesham’s Tim Vaux & Robert Noble managed to take the points in
their other two matches beating Pershore 6-1 and then Bidford 6-2. In
the final match Linton Gardiner & Oliver Barrett (Pershore) bt Patrick
Naylor & Farryl McCarlin (Bidford) 6-2.
