The second round of Pool matches for the Prudden Road Surfacing Junior
Tennis Cup competition were played during April and the leaders of the
four Pools are Henley-in-Arden jointly with Tanworth-in-Arden, Studley,
Shipston-on-Stour and Evesham. In Pool A, Henley-in-Arden’s Adam Williams & Jake Evans managed to keep their team at the top of their table, but were hard pressed by last year’s pool winners Tanworth-in-Arden. Henley began by defeating hosts Snitterfield 6-3 and then beat neighbours Claverdon 6-3. However, when they met Tanworth’s Rory Turnbull & Will Elliot they were stopped in their tracks as the Tanworth pair enjoyed a close 6-4 victory. Tanworth then went on to beat Claverdon 6-3 before they too were surprised and only just beat host side Snitterfield. Their pair Oliver Albrecht & Jonnie Smith almost caused a shock before losing out on a tie-break 6-7 to Tanworth. In their other match Snitterfield defeated Claverdon’s Jasper Chamberlain & Rory Harris 6-1. These results mean that Tanworth share the top of the table with Henley on 11 points each. Pool B once again saw the host team, Studley’s Tom Allum & Jake Woolley, prove too strong for the others, defeating first HDA of Redditch 6-1, followed by Alcester 6-3, and lastly Inkberrow 6-3. The Inkberrow pair of Billy Coughlin & George Crotty again managed two wins by beating Alcester 6-2, and HDA 6-1. In the remaining match HDA gained a victory at last when their pair Hugo Berry & Matthew Parsons defeated Alcester’s Olli Alleman & Henry Moberley in a very close match in which HDA had to dig deep to win 7-5. Shipston continued to dominate Pool C with their pairing of Hugh Allen & James Hudson being tipped for this year’s cup final. Despite acting as hosts they again took maximum points dropping only 1 game. That was against near neighbours Ilmington who they beat 6-1, before routing Chipping Campden and Stratford A both by a 6-0 scoreline. The Stratford A pair Oscar Lawrence & Hamish Watson consoled themselves by in turn defeating both Ilmington and Campden by the same 6-1 score. In the final Pool match Campden’s Josh Mosley & Jeremy Crowther gained their solitary win over Imington’s Nick Sharratt & Ned Plackett 6-1. In the final Pool D things were turned upside down in the closest Pool of all. Hosts Bidford-on-Avon, who won all their March Pool matches lost them all this month. Evesham dominated the results as their pair of Tim Vaux & Rob Noble beat first Bidford in a close tussle 7-5, then Pershore more easily 6-1 and finally Stratford B 6-2. Pershore, much improved from last month took two of the matches as Linton Gardiner & Oliver Barrett defeated Bidford 6-3 and Stratford B 6-4. Stratford B then took the honours in the last match as Ron Horne & Isaac Mackenzie beat the unfortunate Bidford pair Patrick Naylor & Ben Green 6-4 leaving them the wooden spoon despite winning 12 games on the night. |
